Good Sunny Saturday Morning, everyone!
I got to GiddyUp real early in order to get out some correspondence and make a few phone calls before the day got away from me.
When I got to sit down with my coffee, a man who looks quite young in the drawing, but was well into his thirties, was already there with his things all spread out on the coffee table.
He looked up to greet me, say hello and then, went right back down to his studies. In the three hours he was there, he only got up for a pit stop. He was plugged into his cellphone occasionally scrolling on his laptop and scribbling on a spiral bound notepad.
When I got there, his frappacino was already drained with only crumbs left scattered about the saucer from what seemed a hastily eaten muffin.
I decided to put aside my objectives to pull out a sketchbook and draw him as I hid behind my opened laptop. He seemed intense but in a rather composed way... And, he was practically coloring that book with his highlighter.
I remember those days when everything I read seemed important enough to highlight. Sometimes, it was so important that I'd implement the color coded approach.
Within two false starts, I finally settled in on making the third try a good one. The whole process took me about an hour to complete and he was still at it.
Around ten thirty, long after I was satisfied with my sketch, he started to pack away his things. When he popped the earphones out of his head, I commented.
"Must be a good book!"
"It is," he replied. "It's the Bible. It's the best book I've ever read!"
Although I wanted to say something like "Cool", I blurted out, "Amen". It was the only thing I could quickly come up with that appeared appropriate.
Second cup...
